Double bill: two first creations, two ways of living the in-between.
With Limbo, Suzanne Degennaro explores a state of suspension, neither departure nor arrival, a murky zone where one inhabits doubt. Carried by whacking, a dance born in a queer club in Los Angeles, she gives shape to the intersex experience, to a fragmented gender, to the feeling of living beside oneself. Flamboyant and suspended, Limbo is a silent cry, a party held in mid-air: a dance of the edge, of trouble and of unruly beauty.
Mwendwa Marchand’s first piece, Out/Side questions the place of dancehall on institutional stages. Drawn from a long outdoor practice, she explores with Carl Dhélot and Déhiti Akato the sensations and textures of body that the outside leaves as a legacy: what open space does to creativity, to gesture, to relationships with others. On stage, this essence doesn’t fade: it’s passed on, becoming shared matter.
