Chega de Saudade – Inès Mauricio
In cooperation with the TNB – Théâtre National de Bretagne
With Chega de saudade, Inès Mauricio questions her Portuguese lineage through her family’s story, moving through the various postures inherited and passed down across generations. She sketches a portrait of the colonial Salazarist period in Angola, drawing on the story of her grandmother, “Avò”, who was one of those Portuguese settlers who moved to Angola in search of a better life.
From this perspective, Inès paints an intimate portrait of her family heritage, like a photo album leafed through with nostalgia. And as these images unfold, we almost find ourselves inside the skin of those we remember. We celebrate their successes, we mourn their losses. But shifting the angle, should one instead mourn their successes and celebrate their losses? How does one find one’s place between intimate memory and collective memory?
