Dance as Primitive Echo of Our Existence

The first company to bring parkour to the stage, Compagnie Primitif develops a raw form of hip hop in constant dialogue with group dynamics and the world.

Founded in 2014, Compagnie Primitif is the first breaking company in Brittany and a pioneer in bringing parkour to the stage. A driving force in French hip hop, it develops a visceral form of expression—sometimes poetic, sometimes raw and physical—where every movement reveals the primitive essence of body and mind.

The encounter between breaking and parkour is not simply a crossing of techniques; it is a way of thinking the body in space, its capacity to move, to traverse, and to turn obstacles into points of support. Movement becomes both fall and impulse, constraint and freedom.

Beyond creation, the company also plays a structuring role within the Breton breaking scene: it has been organising the Ren’Storming festival for several years, a key gathering bringing together battles, workshops, and encounters around breaking in Rennes. The event extends into practice what the company defends on stage—transmission, exchange, and the vitality of a living culture.

The company’s work is a quest in constant dialogue with the world around it. It explores group dynamics, social structures, and encounters with otherness, revealing the silent paths of human transformation. Its immersive creations invite reconnection, a raw expression of instinct, and the power of the body in motion.
