Mounia Nassangar

— Associate Artist with FAIR-E / CCN de Rennes et de Bretagne

TAKING A STANCE THROUGH THE BODY

Choreographer, model, and producer, Mounia Nassangar turns whacking into a language that moves across stages without ever losing its political roots.

A recognised figure of whacking in France and internationally, Mounia Nassangar is a choreographer, dancer, actress, model, DJ, and event producer. Dancing since the age of five, she has moved through popping, locking, new style, house dance, dancehall, and street jazz before specialising in whacking.

Brought to wider public attention in 2018 through Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show at the Folies Bergère and Gaspar Noé’s film Climax, awarded at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes, she created Oui, et vous? the same year with the collective Ma Dame Paris, which she co-founded with Sonia Bel Hadj Brahim and Josepha Madoki. She also joined Compagnie Black Sheep around the same period.

Her practice spans multiple fields: choreographer for Aya Nakamura (SMS, 2022), movement director for Kelela, and dancer in Travis Scott’s MODERN JAM video (2023). As a producer, she has organised the festival Waack in Paris at the Gaîté Lyrique, the Carreau du Temple, during Nuit Blanche, and at Defected Croatia. Assistant choreographer for Lancôme, she has collaborated with Tommy Jeans and Jaeger-LeCoultre, and appeared as a model for Evian x Balmain, MAC Cosmetics, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Erborian, for which she is a brand ambassador.

In 2023, she founded her own company, Cie Nassangar, where she created STUCK (2024), awarded First Prize at Danse élargie and since performed more than fifty times in France and internationally. Now an associate artist with Collectif FAIR-E, she is currently working on her second creation, Glitch.
